Q&A: What’s the best camera for a 13 year old girl, who makes videos, AND is interested in photography?
Question by : What’s the best camera for a 13 year old girl, who makes videos, AND is interested in photography?
I’m 13, and I’ll be taking up photography classes next year, in 8th grade, and also when i get into high school. I’ve been interested in photography for 2 years already, and i feel it’s about time to get the proper camera.
My dad has a Canon DSLR camera (not sure which one it was. he never lets me use it), and it was around $ 700 for the camera, and $ 400 for his lenses.
I make videos on youtube, like – unboxings, reviews on tech products, “how to..” videos, hair styles, and more. I really want a great camera that records video, and takes great shots.
The camera is more for photography, and picture taking, than it is for videos; BUT, i do want to use it for both.
My dad’s insisting I buy a DSLR camera like him, but Nikon, since he has a canon. No fujifilm, or Sony cameras please. Only nikon, or canon, if you could. He wants to buy me a $ 600 camera, which is very nice of him to offer, but I don’t think i’m ready to just start taking pictures/videos with a camera, that I PROBABLY won’t even know how to use!
So if you could help me find some $ 200 – $ 400 camera, that would be great.
I’m just a beginner in photography; i took a few classes last spring, but it was like 6 classes only.
thanks so much!

buying anything other than Canon would be a waste of money. Since he has Canon, you can share all accessories and lenses. Otherwise, you would have to re-buy everything.
now, it seems that you want a DSLR camera, in which case, you should look at the Canon Rebel T3, which is around $ 500 including the kit 18-55mm lens. It will do what you want it to do.
if you DO NOT want a DSLR camera, but an advanced point and shoot camera, take a look at the Canon G12 and Nikon P7100
anyway, T3 from Canon, get that, learn well, and you will be just fine.

Digital/Compact Camera: Which is better Canon PowerShot A3300 or Sony CyberShot DSC-W570?
Question by : Digital/Compact Camera: Which is better Canon PowerShot A3300 or Sony CyberShot DSC-W570?
Buying a new digital camera. Which is better Canon or Sony, in terms of features, pictures, style, lenses, etc. I like the sweep panorama of Sony but the flash is sooo harsh. On the other hand, many people have been recommending Canon and they have been in the industry for a long time, unlike Sony who’s a newbie. And also is the Carl Zeiss really that good and special? Why is so Sony talking crap like it’s the new thing? My main purpose for this camera is to learn photography (taking beautiful scenes, nature, etc.) So if that is the case, which is better? Reviews would really help a lot. They’re both 16 MP with 5x optical zoom so I’m kinda caught up choosing between these 2 excellent brands.

Sony / Minolta lens compatibility?
Question by : Sony / Minolta lens compatibility?
I’m looking at a Sony a350 camera, but the reviews I’v been reading sat that the lenses aren’t very good. I have an old Minolta XD slr with several lenses; As I understand things, these lenses are MD mounts (?). Would these lenses be completely compatible with the a350? Auto focus works?

I like Nikon better, but everyone has good & not-so-good lenses. Some of Sony’s lenses are excellent.
The Maxxum/Sony mount is not compatible with the MD Minolta mount. There was (and you can probably still find) an adapter that allowed you to put the old lenses on newer cameras.
I had Minolta when the Maxxum first came out & had their own adapter. It magnified the lenses 2x, lost 2 stops of light, and lost some quality. Plus it was hard to manually focus when there was no indicator & the view was dark.
Old Minolta AF lenses will work fine on the Sony. MD lenses are MF so will never AF on anything.
Personally, I’d recommend buying a camera (Canon/Nikon/Sony) and not worrying about compatibility. The new lenses are great & using old lenses isn’t fun.

In your opinion or from reviews overall how do you rate the follwing digital camera companies best to worst.?
Question by printscreen: In your opinion or from reviews overall how do you rate the follwing digital camera companies best to worst.?
Cannon, Fujifilm, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Sony
( I have omitted companies such as: Casio, HP, Samsung)
becuase they don’t really make their own camera lenses per say. And that they clearly aren’t among the upper tier of camera company groups. Although they make good camera’s just not part of that select group of pioneers in the camera world.
As well as …Konica minolta just becuase they arent that common.

Canon and Fujifilm and Nikon are probably the best. The canon powershot, the fujifilm finepixZ, and the nikon coolpix are great choices for compact cameras. The finepix is pretty, clear, and is probably my favorite, but all three are good. It is simply a personal choice.
