The Sony NEX 5K is a Camera/Video Camera in 1080 HD.

Seems that camera records video in Full HD MP4 format. Mac shall be able to work with MP4.
But if you find the compatibility is not so good you may find a video converter program to convert to the Mac native format MOV according to my experience.
If you want to edit video in iMovie or FCPX you’d better convert the MP4 into AIC or Apple ProRes codec.
Here’s a converter program called Aunsoft Video Converter that works nicely. You may have a look.
