sony dcr-sr220 video camera software questions?
Question by soccerj07: sony dcr-sr220 video camera software questions?
hey-
i just got a brand new sony dcr-sr220 video camera. its really cool and i would recommend it to anyone. i only have a couple questions. is there any software for mac that would be compatible with this camera? i can use the windows picture motion browser on windows, but i’d like to be able to do it on the mac if possible. my second question is what is the best video editing program (again, mac would be great, but windows is acceptable) that is compatible with my camera. i’ve heard that sony is fairly tight with their file formats and that usually the only software that would work with their products is their own. is there anything better? (free would be awesome, but i wouldn’t mind to pay)
-thanks in advance

The DCR-100, 200 & 300 are all supported by iMovie ’08, so there’s at least a chance that the 220 is too.
Sony can be “innovative” with video formats such as MicoMV, but if they say they’re using a standard format (MPEG-2 in this case) then that’s what it’ll be.

The Sony DCR-SR60 is a hard drive based, standard definition camcorder. Connect it to your Mac with a USB cable and in PC mode, it will mount like any other external mass storage device.
Locate the video files (the directory structure is near the end of the manual).
Copy the files to the Mac’s hard drive.
Download and install MPEG StreamClip
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
Launch StreamClip and convert the video files to something iMovie can deal with – .mov or .mp4 format video.
When the conversion is complete, quit StreamClip and launch iMovie. Name the video project file, select whether DV or DV widescreen, select the hard drive destination… Create.
Drag the converted files to the clips pane or the Log & Capture area (depends on the version of iMovie you are using).
Other handy tools:
Flip4 Mac (playback only)
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/flip4macwindowsmediacomponentsforquicktime.html
VLC Player
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
HandBrake
http://handbrake.fr/
There are others, but this is a good start…

The unboxing of the new Sony Bloggie MHS-PM5K blue version. For only 158,- euro you can’t find it any cheaper. I bought mine from Digital Warehouse in Amsterdam. www.digitalwarehouse.nl I believe more companies will follow in making camera’s with a 360 degree feature. But for the price of only 158,- euro Sony has made it possible to make fun videos with the 360 lens for an affordable price. The only thing is … Sony has made this camera a trendy device by offering different colors and the 360 feature making it ofcours attractive to buy. The only problem with this is i believe that the chances are that a Mac user will buy this gadget is equal to a PC user if not more. Meaning that if you are a Mac user … your screwed if you wan’t to use the special converting software for your 360 videos it is NOT mentioned anyware. Also like most similar devices … you wil get more noice the darker it get’s. It has a 5 megapixel camera but with no flash but hey what do you aspect from a 158 euro camera. And ofcourse it has FullHD. Overall i’m very happy i bought this camera but dissapointed in the lacking software for Mac users … luckily for me i use both platforms. I wanted to give this device a 3 star because of the lacking Mac software/support but by deeply thinking about it … i sill have to give it a 4 star for price/quality because of the neat 360 lens, design, features, picture/film quality. As you know i have bought this camera specially for my trip to Japan… So videos …
