Q&A: How do you upload footage from Sony HandyCam to iMovie?
Question by : How do you upload footage from Sony HandyCam to iMovie?
I’m trying to upload videos from my Sony HandyCam to my Mac OS X iMovie. When I open the iMovie application, I wait to see if it recognizes the camera, but no luck so far. I’ve been reading some forums, and it’s been rumored that the Sony HandyCam isn’t supported by the Mac OS X system. Please let me know your suggestions and tips. It’s much appreciated. Thanks.

Check the iMovie camera compatibility database:
http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US
Check the manual of the camera to find out if there is anything you have to do when connecting the camera to the Mac.
Read the iMovie Help to find out how you import video directly from a camcorder.

How do I transfer video from my Sony camcorder to the computer?
Question by : How do I transfer video from my Sony camcorder to the computer?
I have a DCR-DVD610 Sony Camcorder. I would like to transfer videos that have been recorded on the mini disc and put them onto the computer. For use in sharing them with others thru youtube or whatnot. Is this at all possible? I can’t even find an answer on the Sony Support Forum. I have only been able to play the video by connecting the camera to the USB port on my PC. It will play on the screen but there is no way to save it on the computer.
Do I need to save it in another way? Did I need to record it so it goes on a Memory Stick Pro Duo?
If anyone can help I appreciate it. And do not tell me to read the instructions. I have and found no answer. Thanks!
Kevin, not sure if you’ll see this. Tried that and it came up with a folder “Video_TS. In there it had files that I clicked on but it could not open them. They were BUP, IFO and VOB type files. It said it couldn’t read them and had a whole thing trying to open them. I’ll fool around a little more I guess.

Plug the camera in to the computer via usb and then go to the start menu and click on the computer tab to open a window that show’s the storage devices connected to the computer. Right click on the video camera and click open. This should display the video files. (they may be in a sub folder) From there, try to copy and paste them on to your hard drive. If you just keep left clicking on the files it probably try’s to play them because that is the default selection.
