You may use the best software I have seen AVS Video Tools. It can convert to/from all key format, upload video or DVD directly to key portables like iPod, Sony PSP, Archos, Zen Creative, and mobiles.

Here is my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX10 Camera Blue. I just got this today! It works very well! There is only one problem… I can’t get any of the videos I took to show up on my Mac and I cant find any videos on the SD card that I had in the camera. What kind of film making? Nex-5 is ok for casual user but if you are doing some serious work than something more expensive would be needed (such as Nex-VG10, that is $ 2000).

Just recently we had our older Sony Handycam stolen so we are in the market for a new camcorder. My dad and I will be sharing one. He wants it to be easy to use and good for taking home videos. I will be using it to make small videos with such as special effect videos. I have made a list with two categories. A “Must Have” category and a “Would like to have” category. I want to find a camera with all of the Must haves and as many as the ‘Would likes’ as possible but still be in our budget. We are looking to spend in the ballpark of $ 800 give or take a few hundred dollars and with Christmas sales coming up we were hoping that we could get a nice one for a little cheaper than usual. If we need to spend a little bit more and get a nice camcorder that will last us a while then we might try and do that.

Our Sony Handycam recorded to Mini DVDs we thought this would be nice but they only held 30min worth of video and we always were having to switch the DVDs out with a new one. This really got in the way when recording things like a wedding or recital. We would really like something that makes it very easy to transfer the videos to a computer but hold a longer duration of video without having to switch what ever it is out.

Here are my two categories

MUST HAVES
- A jack for an external microphone
- Normal video format, nothing weird or proprietary i.e. AVI, Mpeg, etc.
- Easy to transfer the videos to the computer for editing. We prefer to not have to buy extra hardware to transfer media to the computer
- Video compatible with editing softwares such as Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects
- Optical Zoom
- Remote for the camera
- Auto-focus

WOULD LIKES
- External monitor jack
- Able to ‘stream’ to the computer ( kinda like a really nice webcam)
- manual focus mode
- High Definition mode ( as long as the quality is good I really don’t care if it is HD or not. If it has an HD mode that would be nice though)
- Video out port for watching videos on the T.V. directly through the camera
- Interchangeable lenses

I personally believe that in the same price range you are talking about, you could get a nicer camera that is slightly used, but would be better in the long run.

Tv stations eventually get new cameras and sell their cameras much cheaper than the original price, but it’s still a nice camera – it’s tv station quality.

Also, I would personally only get somethin in DV tape format, as this has been the industry standard for quite some time with no evidence of it being replaced in any short amount of time.

I would call around to the tv stations and just ask. Also ask around to people you know, like people from your work,school,church,etc…

Alot of times these people themselves will have a camera that they might want to sell.

However, be prepared to spend a little more than $ 800 for a nice camera like I have described above. I am not sure of the current price, but a couple of years ago, it seemed like the ‘going rate’ for a used tv station camera was roughly around $ 1500
